Starting the Train Room

Today is January 2nd, 2016, and Bob and I plan to start working on the train room layout in the basement. I will take photos of the progress and post them on this website.

We have a 9′ x 9′ room in a corner of the basement that we will dedicate to the trains. The trains are “N” scale, so that means that they are really small, and we can fit a lot of train tracks and buildings into a small space. Bob has built most of the platforms, at about counter height, with different levels and tunnels to run the track. He’s also installed the curtains all around the bottom of the platform. I had sewed up some grey bedsheets to make curtains so we could hide all the storage space under the platforms. The curtains hide large tubs of holiday decorations, a shelf full of paint, and an old TV cabinet that holds the trains and buildings and decorations we’ve been collecting. We have already have painted the walls and ceiling sky blue, but I am going to change the tones of blue from dark to light, and paint clouds with an airbrush. We also spray painted some old track lighting the same bluish color, to help the lights blend with the ceiling.
